Do you want a better and more effective way of abortion? Here it is! There are two tablets used to terminate a pregnancy. The first one is ‘Mifepristone,’ which blocks the effects of the female hormone called progesterone, and the second drug is ‘Misoprostol.’ It causes abortion by the contraction of the uterus. Mifepristone Misoprostol tablets get used together, one after the other. Let’s look at how does it work and its side effects.

The usage of the Mifepristone Misoprostol tablets

Firstly, visiting a doctor is a must. Without this, the medication cannot start. Your gynecologist will tell you to do a scan to ensure that you are pregnant less than ten weeks or not. Furthermore, the scan will let you and your doctor know that the egg is not outside the womb. Once the primary thing gets done, you can take the tablets as the doctor recommends. At first, you have to take a single dose of mifepristone orally. After 24 to 36 hours of taking the mifepristone drug, you need to take the first dose of misoprostol by mouth. You have to wait for 24 hours, and the medication will do its work. You will have heavy vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain for some time. But heavy bleeding always does not mean that abortion gets completed. You need to do a scan within 14 days of taking the tablet for confirmation.

Side effects of Mifepristone and Misoprostol tablets

You might suffer nausea, diarrhea, and weakness. Call your doctor if it continues more than 24 hours after taking the misoprostol tablet. During the treatment, you will have bleeding and cramps. But sometimes, despite the bleeding and the abdominal pain, you might still be pregnant. Only a doctor can direct you on what to follow next. However, bleeding and spotting last up to 30 days. After the abortion, the period is longer than the regular menstrual period. If heavy bleeding does not stop after a week of taking the tablets, immediate medication is necessary. If you have heavy bleeding, change your sanitary pads every 2 hours. It will avoid infection as well.

Precautions before and after treatment

Before starting the treatment, make sure that you are not allergic to the compositions of the medicines. If you have severe complications or genetic blood disease, avoid these drugs. In such cases, it is obvious to do surgery. Also, don’t forget to tell the doctor your low blood count and whether you are a smoker.

After a successful abortion, another pregnancy may occur. Therefore, wait for your regular menstrual periods to begin. You can take birth control pills after the treatment. If you are already a mother, the upcoming point is for you. The drugs affect breast milk. So, doctors often tell to discard the breast milk for a few days post medication.

Final words

Abortion is a very crucial matter. It involves the expelling of blood. So, do not try anything without a doctor’s consultation. You don’t have to worry about the loss of blood. The doctor will prescribe you some other tablets such as iron, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and abortion drugs. It will balance it all.
